Corfu – family holiday
8. August 2020Mount Ainos
12. August 2020Amandakis Beach - underwater paradise
The beach is anything but your typical beach! That's how Amandakis could be described. It's not just any beach – it's an immense flat rock that you have to jump off of into the sea to discover hidden treasures lurking beneath the surface. There's a small parking lot right next to the beach, so you're sure to find a place to park. And then, just a short 5-minute walk away, you'll find... You'll even get to cross a bridge over a canal surrounded by sandstone rocks, which really adds to the atmosphere. It may not look very appealing at first, but we were blown away by the underwater world the kids discovered! We were initially unsure if Amadakis Beach was for us, but we're so glad we gave it a chance!
It's up to you which part of the rock you land in, the underwater life is all around it and it is one of the most diverse in Kefalonia. Just let yourself go with the current and watch the different coloured fish. Luckily there are no sea urchins here, but it's still best to wear water shoes. The kids also managed to find a small octopus hiding behind a rock.
A visit to this beach is not for the whole day. There's no bar or sunbeds, but it's an ideal half-day stop for people who like to snorkel, or for families with older children who have grown tired of regular beaches and want to chase fish. Chiara learned in Egypt how to shoot a quick hand out to touch the fish, so she practices this on every vacation. We say she's bullying them, she says she's just stroking them, and here she's managed to pet a few.
If you like snorkeling and you go to the south whether to Spartia Beach, Pesada Beach or Avithos, stop here at least for an hour, its really worth it.
