Playa Lagun is a beach that will win you over with its intimate atmosphere and natural beauty. Hidden between two rocky cliffs, it forms a small, narrow cove with crystal clear water. It is one of the best places on the island for snorkelling and diving, where you can observe the colourful underwater world just a few metres from the shore.

Bay surrounded by cliffs
Playa Lagun is hidden in a picturesque bay surrounded by steep cliffs covered with lush vegetation. Its fine sand and crystal clear sea invite you to relax and unwind. Among its most frequent visitors are the iguanas, which stroll along the sand and make it clear who is at home here.

Old boats, which are almost permanently parked on the shore, complete the idyllic scenery. Beware of them, though they are quite rusty. Don’t try to climb into them, you could hurt yourself. We originally thought about getting in the boat, but the rusty bolts that stuck out in places convinced us that it wasn’t the best idea.

Apart from us, only a few visitors enjoyed the solitude that the beach offers. Thanks to the presence of fishing boats and iguanas, the beach has an authentic character and reminds us of the traditional life on the island. This makes the beach feel not at all touristy, which makes it a very special place. It is rare to find a beautiful beach that is easy to get to and where there are hardly any people. This is probably the defining advantage of Curacao.

Paradise for snorkelers, divers and nature lovers
Playa Lagun is known for its excellent snorkelling and diving conditions. With its rocky reefs and abundant underwater life, this beach is considered one of the best locations for viewing coral reefs and tropical fish in Curaçao. With clear water, you can admire the beauty of the underwater world even from the surface.

In addition to the common tropical fish, turtles are also frequent visitors. Unfortunately, we had no luck with them. However, we did come across a very interesting fish, the Flying Gurnard, which is also called the Flying Perch. Suddenly, the fish opened its butterfly wings and showed itself in all its splendour.

Playa Lagun is organized but empty
You can find the beach near the village of Lagun. The well-known beaches Kleine Knip and Grote Knip lie a short distance to the north, so you can see them in one day. Directly in front of the beach, you will find a small parking lot, which, in my opinion, has never been full.
On the beach, you will find basic amenities such as sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, toilets and a small snack bar where you can buy some food and drinks.
Right above the beach is the Bahia Beach Bar, which offers a beautiful view of the bay. It’s a great place for lunch or dinner at sunset. Here you will find typical Caribbean dishes, fish and refreshing cocktails.
