1. December 2022Coral Beach: the beauty of Paphos
Coral Beach is located just a short walk from Paphos town and offers fine brown sand and beautiful sea colours. Although the water is slightly cooler than on the east coast, it is still very pleasant. Families with children in particular will appreciate the gently sloping entrance to the sea, but swimmers will also enjoy it. The sea slopes faster here than in the Ayia Napa area.
Calm and pleasant
However, we encountered more algae here that we haven’t seen on other beaches. We were very surprised how few people were on the beach. We were expecting smaller crowds than at Nissi, Makronissos or Fig Tree Bay,but not by that much. We didn’t find fine white sand or turquoise water, but the beach gave us a nice feeling of privacy. We had read everywhere that the beach tends to be very busy in August, but the truth was quite different.
Which our children appreciated, because they could play with the ball without being afraid of hitting someone. Also around lunchtime there were free sunbeds left, which was a nice bonus.
The beach is ideal if you are near Paphos and looking for the best beach for a swim that can be reached in a few minutes. We flew into Paphos at 10am and were looking for a beach where we could get some sleep and recharge our batteries for the rest of the day.
At Coral Beach you will find everything
This beach has a laid-back life and offers plenty of opportunities to relax. There are beach bars, restaurants with snacks, sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. The price for umbrellas is the same as at other beaches, €7.5 for two sun loungers. The kids were out of luck and were lying on a blanket next to us .
There are fewer people on the right edge. Maybe it’s because there are no hotels here. Nevertheless, even on this part, you will find a snack bar. The beach is beautifully clean and the sand is fine, perfect for lounging or building sandcastles.
The beach and its beauty
Coral Beach offers a sandy beach with a length of approximately 600 metres and shallow water, ideal for families with small children and those who prefer quiet relaxation. The sand continues into the sea, where you won’t find any stones or rocks. The sea slopes slowly but not too much. So swimmers and children will find their own way.
Another big plus is the scenery. Instead of hotels or high-rise buildings, you get a view of the greenery surrounding the beach and isolating it from the hustle and bustle beyond.
If you’re looking for more hustle and bustle, head to the northern part of the beach. There are plenty of hotels, bars and all the water sports are closer to this part of the beach. However, if you want quiet, natural scenery and fewer people, come to the south side, which is where we were.
How to get here?
Transportation to Coral Beach is easy. There is a regular bus line 615 from Paphos city centre, which will take you directly to the beach in about 30 minutes. If you arrive by car, you’ll find several free car parks right by the beach. Along the main coastal road, you won’t miss them.
And if you’re looking for things to do after the beach, you can head to nearby Akamas Canyon, explore the Sea Caves, or enjoy the sunset at White River Beach or the Edo III shipwreck.
