27. January 2023Batibou Beach – mysterious paradise where time stands still
Some beaches come with restaurants, loungers, and crowds of tourists. Others captivate with raw beauty, making you feel as if you’ve stumbled upon a hidden corner of the world, untouched by modern life. Batibou Beach belongs to the latter.
It feels almost unreal—a long stretch of golden sand, palm trees leaning over the ocean, and nothing but the sound of the wind and waves. No hotels, no shops—just you and this tropical paradise.
If you’re searching for a place to escape civilization, Batibou Beach will exceed every expectation.

Road to Batibou Beach
Getting to Batibou Beach isn’t straightforward, but that’s part of its unique charm. Your car must be left by the main road, where there’s no official parking, just a small spot at the edge.
From there, a 15 to 20-minute walk along a dusty path awaits. As you make your way down, a large sign with the beach’s name reassures you that you’re on the right track.

The first steps follow a wide, well-trodden path, flanked by dense tropical vegetation. Towering palm trees and massive leafy canopies form a green tunnel, with only a few rays of sunlight managing to pierce through. Although the path is wide enough for a car, access is blocked by a barrier, ensuring that only those on foot can venture forward.
Halfway through the journey, the scenery shifted. We emerged from the forest, and suddenly, the wild coastline welcomed us from one side.
The path kept sloping downward, anticipation building with every step—until, finally, we caught our first glimpse of Batibou Beach. And it took our breath away. The view was stunning, almost surreal in its beauty.
Completely captivated, we paused, unable to move, simply absorbing the scene before us. It was a moment worth savoring before we could bring ourselves to continue.

Beach – like from a movie screen
The final steps take you across soft, warm sand. Lush green palms lean gracefully over the turquoise ocean, their fronds swaying gently in the breeze.
Ahead, a long stretch of golden sand lies completely untouched. No crowds, no distractions, just you and the perfect tropical scenery, as if nature crafted this paradise just for you.

The sand is soft, warm, and inviting, perfect for sinking your feet into with every step. There are no umbrellas or lounge chairs, just towering coconut palms, offering natural shade against the golden glow of the sun. Scattered nearby, wooden tables and chairs, remnants of an old beachside restaurant, stand as quiet witnesses to the passage of time. If relaxation is what you seek, simply lie back on the sand and let the rhythmic sound of the ocean wash over you, filling the air with pure serenity.
The children wasted no time. They rushed to the swing, laughing as they soared over the waves, which crashed gently onto the shore beneath them.

The sea wasn’t calm, with strong waves rolling in. Just perfect for our kids who loves diving into the swells and playing in the currents.
Thankfully, while the waves had power and movement, they weren’t overwhelming or dangerous. You could feel their presence, but they remained manageable, adding to the thrill rather than posing a risk.
Since our children prefer an active ocean over still waters, Batibou Beach was the ideal playground.

The water is calmer near the former restaurant, providing a more relaxed spot for swimming. However, on the other side, the currents are significantly stronger, and the owners advised against swimming there.
They warned that dangerous currents could appear unexpectedly, making that part of the beach riskier for those venturing into the water.

Unorganised, but private
Batibou Beach isn’t a public beach. It’s privately owned, and entry requires a small fee of around 5€ per person. However, this price grants nothing but solitude, making it a truly secluded escape.
Once, visitors could enjoy a meal at the beachside restaurant, but it has been closed for quite some time. Still, the owners are present daily, not only to collect the entrance fee but also to help crack open coconuts, which grow in abundance here.

They climb up the palm tree, hand you a machete, and let you try opening the coconut yourself. No pressure — if you’d rather not, they’re happy to help. But for us, it was too tempting to pass up, so we went for it! Not as easy as it looks, and we definitely needed some assistance. Afterward, we had fun messing around with the machete, while the kids argued over the swing, completely caught up in their own little adventure.
Keep in mind, that there are no restaurants or food stalls on the beach. If you don’t bring your own water and snacks, you’ll have to make do with fresh coconuts, the only natural refreshment available.

Paradise that cannot be forgotten
We’ve explored countless breathtaking beaches — across the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia—but few compare to Batibou Beach.
Most stunning coastlines are framed by hotels or require long, difficult treks to reach. Batibou is different. It remains wild, authentic, hidden from the world, untouched by mass tourism.
Its very shape resembles a heart, as if it’s declaring from the very first glance that it will capture yours.
It didn’t have dazzling white sand or perfect turquoise water, but it had something far greater — a soul.
Something that no camera could ever fully capture. An atmosphere, a feeling of freedom, a deep connection to nature.
On this beach, every one of us, children and adults alike, felt pure happiness. As if it knew exactly what each person needed in that moment, offering it effortlessly.
Batibou Beach has forever claimed a place in our hearts, and there’s no doubt — we will return one day.
Batibou Beach pairs beautifully with a hike to Chaudière Pool, creating the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. For sunset, however, the beach won’t offer much of a view — so it’s best to head to the nearby Red Rocks, where the dramatic landscapes and fiery skies make for an unforgettable end to the day.
